Ingredients
4 apples
1 cup raisins
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon butter
2 teaspoons chopped walnuts
orange peel, ground
cloves
nutmeg
cinnamon
orange juice, reconstituted from concentrate only
sour cream or yogurt
Instructions:

Anything that can be made overnight is appreciated by hosts Philip and Clovis Dennis, who don’t want to skimp on taste in breakfast haste. The smell of cinnamon and the other spices is an added benefit to this recipe.

The night before serving, core apples almost to the bottom, removing seeds and creating a cavity. Set apples in a baking dish. Place 1/4 cup raisins in each cavity. Add a pinch of orange peel, cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon to each. Then add 1/4 teaspoon brown sugar and butter to each. Top with 1/2 teaspoon nuts. Pour enough orange juice in the baking dish to fill half-way up the sides of the apples. Cover with lid or foil. Place in a 150- or 175-degree oven overnight. (Note: many ovens are unreliable below 200 degrees, so you may wish to prepare apples, then set “timed bake” clocks to switch on and bake apples at 250 degrees for about 90 minutes before breakfast time.)

In the morning, serve with a dollop of sour cream or yogurt, topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
