Mary helen's chocolate pie recipe details
A dark, chocolaty pie that my mother made. I searched for years and made several attempts until I finally came up with this. It is just like I remember as a kid in Alabama. I’m not a cook. So, if I can do it, anyone can.

Ingredients
Serves: 8- 1 baked 9-inch pie shell
- 1 cup white sugar
- 5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
- 3 tablespoons corn starch
- 1/4 cup all purpose flour
- 4 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 can (12 ounce) evaporated milk
- 4 egg whites
- 1/4 cup sugar
Preparation method
Prep: 15 mins | Cook: 20 mins1. Prepare and bake one 9 inch pie shell
2. In a sauce pan, mix sugar, cocoa, corn starch and all purpose flour
3. Mix the eggs and vanilla extract in a separate bowl. Then add mixture to dry ingredients
4. Add evaporated milk and stir until well blended.
5. Place pan on stove over medium heat and stir continually until thickened
6. Pour into the prepared pie shell and let cool.
7. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
8. Mix egg whites until soft peaks occur
9. Gradually add the 1/4 cup of sugar and mix until firm peaks are formed
10. Spread over pie and bake until golden brown.
