Italian style wine biscuits recipe details
Ingredients
375 g | plain flour |
1 tsp | baking powder |
3 tbsp | caster sweet |
250 ml | dry red wine |
125 ml | vegetable oil |
5 tbsp | granulated sugar, as light coating |
Instructions
Makes about 32 biscuits if restricting to 2 inch, 5cm diameter.Preheat oven to Gas Mark 4, 180°C, 350°F.
In a large bowl mix together the flour, caster sugar and baking powder and add wine and oil. Mix together with a large fork and finish mixing with fingers.
Pinch out small pieces of dough and roll into a short log or sausage. Shape to circles with fingers but try to keep to the size specified. Alternatively, roll out to about ¼ inch or 6mm thick and use a biscuit cutter. Press excess dough together and roll out for additional biscuits.
Roll biscuits in the granulated sugar and place on a baking tray in rows. Bake for 25 minutes until just beginning to brown. Remove from tray and allow to cool.
The biscuits may be flexible when hot but will crisp up whilst cooling.
