Honey balls recipe details
Ingredients
For the dough: | |
200 g | flour |
1 tbsp | sugar |
6 medium | eggs |
grated zest of 1/2 lemon | |
2 medium | eggs, yolks only |
2 tbsp | butter |
oil, for frying | |
For the topping: | |
230 g | honey |
115 g | candied orange rinds, finely diced |
Instructions
Combine flour, 6 whole eggs and 2 yolks, butter and sugar and knead into smooth but firm dough.Cut the dough into pieces and roll them into long cylinders and cut each of these into small nuggets. Use up all the dough and place the nuggets on a floured surface.
Fry the nuggets in hot oil and, when golden, place them in a sieve and drain them well, then dry on paper towels.
Put the honey in a saucepan and bring to a boil over low heat. Simmer until the honey turns golden. Add the nuggets with the candied fruit and the grated peel. Mix well, coating all nuggets evenly.
Always serve at room temperature and do not refrigerate.
