Makes great chocolate-cherry cake. I used walnuts instead of almonds and it tasted good.

Ingredients

- 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup chopped unblanched almonds or walnuts
- 1 (4 ounce) jar drained maraschino cherries, save syrup
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup water and the cherry syrup that you saved
Preparation method
Prep: 30 mins | Cook: 35 mins
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Mix flour, brown sugar, cocoa, baking soda, salt, and almonds with a fork. Add water and reserved cherry syrup to measure 1 cup. Stir syrup-water mixture and the remaining ingredients into flour mixture. Pour into ungreased 9×9-inch square pan.
3. Bake until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 35-40 minutes.
