California breakfast cheese pie recipe details
- Ingredients
- 1 can crescent rolls
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- One 15-ounce container non-fat ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup sugar
- Streusel Topping
- 1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup soft butter or margarine
Separate crescent rolls into triangles and line 10-inch pie plate to create a crust. Make dough look like a 4-pointed star with 4 dough points overhanging edge of pan. (Sometimes more points will hang over!)
Whisk together the eggs, orange peel, vanilla, ricotta cheese, and 1/4 cup sugar. Then pour mixture into dough-lined pan.
Mix together streusel topping by blending together the whole wheat flour, cinnamon, soft butter or margarine, and 1/4 cup sugar with a wooden spoon until coarse crumbs begin to form. Sprinkle this over the egg and cheese mixture.
Fold dough points over streusel. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until filling jiggles only slightly in center when gently shaken. Cool on wire rack. Serve hot or at room temperature with sliced and sweetened strawberries. Leftovers, if any, make a great light lunch.
Serves: 8 to 10 with small portions, 6 with generous portions.Share this content!
