Basler brunsli is a traditional Swiss chocolate cookie that originates from Basel. These delightful treats are made with ground almonds, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and a hint of cinnamon. The dough is rolled out and cut into various shapes before being baked to perfection. Basler brunsli are a beloved holiday treat in Switzerland, often enjoyed during Christmas time.

Ingredients

200 g sugar
250 g ground almond
2 tbsp flour
1 pinch(es) cinnamon
2 medium eggs, whites only
100 g dark chocolate
some sugar for decoration

Instructions

Mix sugar, almond, flour and cinnamon in a bowl. Beat egg whites stiff and add. Melt chocolate in water bath – over boiling water – and mix into dough.

Roll out dough between plastic bags or on sugar approximately 8 mm thick. Cut out flower stars. Dry for 6 hours.

Then bake for approximately 4 minutes at 240°C, let cool out and sprinkle with sugar.
