Easy homemade basic cake from scratch that you can add anythings to and make any flavor you like. This is a family recipe that we have passed down 4 or more generations. You can add thing like 1/4 cup cocoa or a of box JELL-O(R) powder to make other flavors.

Ingredients
Serves: 20- 1 cup margarine (or butter)
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 3 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon baking power
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 egg whites
- (optional 1/4 cup cocoa)
- (optional box JELL-O(R) gelatin)
Preparation method
Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 25 mins1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Cream together margarine and sugar.
3. Separate eggs saving whites for later.
4. Mix the yolks in the batter.
5. shift together dry ingredients. set aside.
6. add vanilla to milk. set aside.
7. add dry ingredients one cup at a time to batter with milk as needed (beating until smooth before adding next cup.)
8. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites
9. Bake in a greased 9×13-inch cake pan for 25-35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes clean.
