  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Preparation method

Prep: 20 mins | Cook: 3 hours

1. Use salt and black pepper to rub the brisket forming a nice coating of seasoning for the meet.

2. Pour oil into a large Dutch oven and set over medium-high heat. Add brisket and sear both sides until browned, then transfer to a plate.

3. Add onions and garlic to the Dutch oven. Cook for about 6 minutes to soften. Set brisket back in the Dutch oven.

4. In a mixing bowl, whisk broth together with chili sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, chili powder, and bay leaves. Drizzle over the brisket in the Dutch oven.

5. When broth mixture comes to a boil, turn heat down to low and place a lid on the Dutch oven. Cook for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, until meat is falling apart. Take out the bay leaves.

6. Transfer brisket to a platter and slice.

7. In a small bowl, whisk flour together with water. Add to the Dutch oven. When juices come back to a boil, cook for 2 minutes to thicken the sauce.
